Rachel Zoe sells her jewelery!

LA stylist to the stars, Rachel Zoe will be selling her jewelry at DecadesTwo! Unfortunately it is a private event BUT any jewelry that does not get sold on March 26th will be available on their website decades2.com and on their ebay site. So that's good for all of us fashionistas! But you have to wonder why she is selling off her collection of jewelry in the first place....maybe the recession is really hitting ALL of us.

Nicole Ricci's House of Harlow Collection

Nicole Ricci went to Kitson this past week to debut her jewelry line, "House of Harlow." She showed up all decked out in jewelry from her line and wore a dress that seems very Grecian inspired. Nicole is also pregnant with her second child---and looks fab! The line is actually very affordable, with pieces starting at 12 dollars!!! There are great looking bangles, rings and of course headbands which are inspired by the 1960's. Here are some pictures of the collection-- which are available to pre-order through Kitson Online.

House of Harlow 1960 - Gold Seven Strand Headband $395.00
House of Harlow 1960 - Black Resin Triangle Necklace $125.00

Marc Jacobs Fall 2009 Jewelry

The jewelry for the Marc Jacobs fall 2009 show was quite eclectic. One thing that stayed constant is that they were big and very statement like. There were mixed metals, sparkles, different color gems, and chains. I love the blown up chain with set in stones and blue pieces.

Dolce and Gabbana Fall 2009 Jewelry

Dolce and Gabbana's Fall 2009 collection was full of tons of fun images---animal print, Marilyn Monroe, hot pink satin, and some GREAT jewelry. I loooove the watch idea- that with tons of chains just make for a fabulous look. Also shown were lipsticks, turqouise pieces and other objects set in tons of chain.

Lanvin Runway statement jewelry

One of my favorite design houses, Lanvin, had a gorgeous, glamorous, 1940's influenced collection. It also showed some bulky statement jewelry. It seems to consist of a lot of metal, chain, round shapes and metal curls. It looks quite futuristic or modern.

Tassels galore

Ellen Pompeo in a tasseled necklace

I am really feeling tassel jewelry right now---probably because I am really into fringe at the moment too. Tassels can look gorgeous in gold, silver, diamond and even fabric. Here are some celebrities in tassel necklaces.

Designer Profile: Devon Leigh

[Green Amethyst Nugget, $1,330.00]

Devon Leigh is an LA based designer whose designs sell in top notch boutiques and department stores. While quite pricey, it is awesome to see what the outcome is when you use such gorgeous and good quality materials.

I love her gold dipped precious stones.

[Gold Wrapped Quartz Drusy Necklace, $425]

Her pieces are mostly gold and they have this soothing, goddess like quality to them.

Enjoy the jewelry inspiration of the day :)

Downtown Jewelry District

A little history on the Los Angeles Jewelry district:
Los Angeles has the second-largest jewelry district in the nation, after New York. In the heart of downtown's jewelry district stands the Pantages Theater. It was once one of the city's most prestigious vaudeville houses. Theater manager Alexander Pantages built the nine-story structure in 1919, the 16th in a nation-wide chain of over 80 theaters. Pantages also built theaters on Broadway and on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles. In the 1940's, Warner Brothers bought the theater and named it "Warner's Downtown". Although it still has it's "WB" shield, it has been sold many times. A church in the 50's, the building was bought in 1988 f or 16 million dollars and turned into the Jewelry Center.

I decided to take a trip to the district because I've been taking up a new hobby/trade: jewelry making. So far, I've been able to find very nice stuff at Kings Road beads on Beverly Blvd (between La Cienega and Crescent Heights) and at Pearl art store. But Pearls stuff isn't made from the best materials-- and Kings Road beads is retail priced (pretty expensive but good quality). So if you don't want to take the trek downtown- that would be a place I would recommend.

BUT if you go downtown to the jewelry mart- not only will you find great prices on beads and findings, but also great ones on ready made jewelry. Stop in a 607 or 605 S. Hill street and you will find tons of vendors selling stuff at lower prices than regular retail stores. "Silver International" is in the 605 building-- had some great stuff chains, earings, charms, jewelry. "Bella's Findings" also in the 605 building is a GREAT place for beads and findings --not pre-made jewelry. Theres also Berger's beads on 413 E 8th St. All of those stores you can actually go online to their websites as well- and order online!

But don't miss out on the adventure of exploring downtown. There are tons of places to go out to, see shows, eat delicious food, etc! Downtown News
